trasmutazioni

This is my biggest painting. During summer 2004 i had to build the whole interior design of a tattoo studio-art gallery in Bologna called "Il Settimo Cerchio". The owners, which are my friends, asked me to do a painting this big that could fit on one of the walls of the studio. It took about two months to do it.

Wow... Tommasso, that's a huge painting. It must be quite stunning to view the real thing. Can you tell us a little about the work? Thanks. /j-p.

Well, thanks Hillel for taking the time to give some feedback on another artist's work.
I'd like to think that ArtProcess can be something more than just another site to post work - it can also offer an opportunity to give a little encouragement, discuss an idea, or argue out different ways of seeing.
Coming back to Tommaso's painting, wouldn't it be interesting to see a photo of the work in situ, that is, a shot of the paintng how it fits in it's environment? I didn't see an example on his site (highly recommended viewing) so maybe Tommaso you'll add another image of it here on artprocess? Thanks. /j-p.

It's painted on a particular paper applied on wood. It is the first painting i've done of a series of 22, the Tarots. This is "The Lover"

Tommaso... I really enjoyed your websites. That's amazing work. I hope to see it for real if you let me know when you're exhibiting next in Rome. Sei forte. /j-p.

I wrote a story called "L'operamara". This is the 6th of 16 illustrations of the story. I drew it pencil on paper, scanned it and colored it with illustrator

I decided to do a step forward: not only emotions, also some depth in concepts. This is one of 7 paintings I've done, it is a work on the relationship that exists between human beings and technology.

I think this is wonderful. Your work is so striking but some of your images are so horrible that I don't want to look at them.

hi JP, thanks again!!! Here is the picture...

Thanks Tommaso for posting this photo. Did you paint it there, or you're lucky to have a huge studio? It's so imposing (and scary)- what's the reaction been from viewers?
Do you like working on such a large format?

14 May 06 05:00

I painted it at home, but it is made out of 5 panels (you can slightly see it in this picture). i was really afraid people could get frightened, but everybody remains stoked instead ... I really wish I had a huge studio (actually I wish I HAD a studio), I would really like to go bigger and bigger in dimensions, maybe do one or two paintings each year.... dreams....

Trittico di Riemann

Riemann was a mathematician. He was studying the "obscure" world of primal(I wonder if it is right, anyway I'm talking about numbers that can be divided only by 1 and by themselves) numbers, to find out the frequence with which they 'fall' in the sequence of positive numbers. Nobody found a solution yet, but he is the closest up to today. To find a solution he invented a virtual world, a 4th dimension, something that he described as what's behind the mirror in Alice in wonderland. I painted this in Croatia, on Rab's Island, where I've been for a week invited to do a workshop.

I've was once told that to successfully paint a white painting, or a black painting is an extremely difficult undertaking, and the sign of a good painter. Despite your obvious graphic abilities, you seem to have done very well with this white creation. Complimenti.

By the way, that person also told me the classic "white" painter was Marc Chagall, and the "black", Edouard Manet.

Interesting choise Tom. Plus a kick in Fontana's balls. J.P I am wandering what that person of yours meant exactly about Chagall. I will go looking to find out. Manet's case could be obvious in Maya and The Balcony.
