Too many weekends spend in the mountains result in hallucinations when back at work.

Grazie Luigi per il commento.
. . .. understanding of words, their associated meanings, and their power to influence and control the human psyche would one day become an important obsession for Burroughs

"We must find out what words are and how they function. They become images when written down, but images of words repeated in the mind and not of the image of the thing itself."
- William Burroughs
the only way to find out what people were really saying was to cut up their words and get at the meanings hidden inside

Forse il fatto e' che le parole e le immagini lavorano proprio in due sfere completamente dissociate ?

Resonances inside my head from Gilles Deleuze's world : Deleuze with Guattari saw their task as that of proposing a new concept of desire. Deleuze emphasizes that one never desires something or someone, but rather always desires an aggregate (ensemble). So, there is no desire, says Deleuze, that does not flow into an assemblage, and for him, desire has always been a constructivism, constructing an assemblage (agencement), an aggregate. Desire is established and constructs in an assemblage always putting several factors into play, whereas psychoanalysis reduces desire to a single factor (father, mother, phallus), completely ignorant of the multiple, of constructivism, of assemblages. "Several factors into play" was my intention in this painting. I hope I succeded.

Lately, I don’t paint much but this is one I like and I think it likes me too . . .

Purple men

Purple men

this is an old painting (1989). At the time I was trying to learn something about painting from a friend, Pietro. I don't really remember what was happening while I was painting this, but for sure I was trying to impress him, of course i knew he wouldn't be impressed with my technique so I thought of putting his face amongst my purple friends.

Getting angry to myself at night .... in the kitchen ....

Seems like getting angry with yourself isn't such a bad thing! The painting is a lot livelier and the combination of colour and additional structure come together in a nice balance here. The question is - what made you so angry?

copy
01 Jan 13 20:10

It just happens that i don't have a studio and so i paint in my small kitchen on the floor. When this happens i take my suitcase where i keep colours and paint brushes from the balcony, i put on some music and i hope to get lost, at least just a little. When this doesn't happen i feel frustrated, boring, eaten up by nothing and pink.

This was a painting dated 2006. I never really like it until I met Malang in Casamance in 2010, he’s Madya’ s (my kora teacher) big brother. It might seem nothing has really changed but I now like it. Here is a link to the blog where whoever is interested can see a few pictures which inspired me and eventually listen to some music and read some stories. What an honor as a first reaction to this lively piece... you managed to motivate Hillel to step in with some welcome words of encouragement. Kristina, take a moment to savor a happy sense of feeling pleased with yourself.

Kristina... do excuse me as I'm a bit slow - I can't figure out that message of yours. What do you mean by you called his comments?

And as far as not understanding what we're doing - join the (sizable and growing) club. :o)

I sent Hillel an email saying i wanted to show the painting. He must have felt obliged ... Perhaps .......

copy
05 May 14 17:54

Haha! Don't tell me - a certain female charm? Well done... we must needs muster all the arms of persuasion we possibly can. Old (Master) hands' involvement like Hillel are notoriously difficult to invoke.

copy
05 May 14 21:10

There must be something in the words Hillel uses to describe paintings......the right words, always, powerful words. Bellissimo !

copy
06 May 14 00:51

No feeling of obligation Kristina, I just figured I would respond to your email here (I'm ok by the way). Your last paintings have seen a marked improvement and I felt compelled to respond. That you somehow or other got something out of the lesson of the 8 astounds me because I explained myself so poorly.
Sorry, I'm not doing much painting JP, I'm too busy replacing my parts. I am not too sure that keeping people alive when their parts start wearing out is worth the effort.
Everybody knows that when your vehicle gets so old that you have to start replacing everything, it's time to junk the heap.
Hope you're both alright - regards to all.

Time to head off to Cuba Hillel.
There they know how to treat old cars well. Also I'm reliably told by Kristina, who has travelled extensively on the island, that it's teeming with fully-qualified medical doctors even in the most remote of locations.
In addition, I reckon you'll know just how to appreciate the good cigars, and the good music. Even a bit of tropical sunshine might step up the momentum of that cold Canadian blood circuitry of yours.
My unwarranted advice is to tell Donna to convince you of a month's rest and recuperation there in the real deep south.

copy
06 May 14 21:29

Hillel you haven't been to Cuba yet? I'm sure you'd enjoy it. They love old cars and if doctors can't help you can always try with santeria ...... :-)

O

This was a gift received from friends many years ago. It was a painting of two black women at the market with fruits. I never liked it, so I used the canvas for this one. The title O was a difficult choice, too difficult.... Perhaps I should call it Desire, but what's the difference anyway?

Hello Kristina... not sure what's going on here but it sure seems to be a festive piece. It's a wizz of movement and colour.

Please do keep on insisting that we badly need also to celebrate!

copy

Thanks JP. Today was probably the first time i looked at this under the sun, during daytime and it appeared to me as something completely new and finally also the photo taken shows more about it. It's funny how i saw it different, finished, completed .... Something detatched from me , of it's own ..... almost i asked myself who did this ..... I was happy this morning for this and celbrated all day, yes yes..... Infact.

Painting on canvas

Again Inside Out
Again Inside Out
Again Inside Out

I am reloading the painting again. I've only added a golden triangle (which doesn't look gold from the photo)and a nipple. Plus I've included the frame of it in the photo. Now it's back on the wall, groovin . . .

copy
07 Jul 17 15:08

I must say I got taken aback by that frame. Having seen your paintings come together in the log I didn't expect to have them tamed by a shiny shiny window like that. Still, now that I look at it a bit more, although it does render a certain bourgeois respectability, the painting itself is, thankfully, as riotous as ever.

copy
07 Jul 17 16:48

The painting has been finished in it's frame. I never bothered taking the canvas out of it, only to twist it upside down, yesterday. I dislike frames too but that's where it is and i guess it's the only part my husband likes : the frame ! At least it doesn't end up behind doors, that's where the canvas reside .... So the fact that it's franed and hanging on the wall makes it funky, he's the one !

Self-portrait. Reading my book on the red arm chair, with headphones. And since this is not a naturally tenable position for a whale, this innocent creature had very little time to come to terms with its identity"
