The Trapani Project begins to influence my work. It is challenging me with a new theme: Still Lifes.

Well, when I did „Elaine’s Nightmare“ it was a total exeption from what I usually do. But as I have described it eventually led to the first Trapani painting called „Brueghels Method“. But for the Trapani project is so inspiring (and I guess that’s just what it is all about ... and should be) I got caught with doing still lifes (with an underlying drama). So what I did this week is this fruit tart. You see me in front of it for dimensions sake.

Of course it’s a yummy tart with cherries and eggcream. But of course it’s somewhat distorted. Looks a bit like an ocean liner colliding with an iceberg. So it’s title is „Collision“. The challenge in painting this object is that you have no orientation at all. It’s all about very strange forms like clouds with nearly no known shapes. And while painting your distance is about 30 cm. So you have to find your way through this confusion.

The details may show that in the original size you have a collection of nearly abstract paintings done with a wide brush as usual. There is no chance of any guiding drawing. So you have to put lots of paint on your palette and just try to do it right. So that is painting pure ... and I love it! Well, the other day we had a nice makeshift exhibition at a friend’s place. In his kitchen there were the Trapani tomatoes known as Brueghels Method. And I think that it looked just perfect.

Well, the show goes on and there is a continuation with the still lifes. Here we have some radicchio pressed into a small box making a claustrophobic atmosphere ...

... so this painting is called claustrophobia. It’s amazing, what power and beauty a simple salad developes when being painted. And of course it’s so good having the chance to take a bath in red paint.
