A short and very pleasant journey to the set

Well, to give you an impression please have a look at the map. Enclosed in the rectangle is the historic centre of the town. The first thing I learned was that it is not spoken Trapaaani ... as I thought it would ... but Trapppani with the emphasis on the beginning.

And what really impressed me was how much like northern Africa Trapani looks. This is the situation at the entrance of the historic center, the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. So walking from the seminario for nearly one hour you are welcomed by these beautiful palmtrees.

And a cactus that we may grow in a small pot here in Germany usually has the hight of a tree in Trapani. So I was very impressed by Antonio’s garden. A garden that is full of lovely orange and lemon trees lazy cats and beautiful plants ...

... like this one for example. The next day after Antonio and Liliana collected me from Palermo in a very very adventurous night-journey (that’s quite another story) we met in their house and garden and had a delicious meal together with Vito the architect that also helps to make the show become a success.

... while Vito got the latest news from the papers. So after having a little bit of a siesta we prepared for to have a sight seeing tour to all the main spots of Trapani.

As you can see on the map in the first picture Trapani is like a finger pointing in the direction of Spain. So most of the Town is coastal line. This is the northern front with a view on the cathedral.

While this is the outmost point of the town (the fingernail so to say) where ... as I was told ... John-Paul once proved his swimming skills. The water is absolute clear and very very inviting.

Like most of the Italian towns Trapani has lots of pittoresque views like the northern waterfront watched from the other side. So walking along the bay you often catch yourself thinking how nice it would be to rent one of the apartments.

This is the town hall called Palazzo d’Ali. At the moment it is the question whether if the old mayor or a new one will take place in it. So this is a house not unimportant for our project.

... or in one of the narrow ones that are cool and shadowy and perfectly protect you from any sunburn.

Here we have the old fish market. A place exellent for exhibition with it’s cabinets. The other exhibition places are already shown on the web site so I did not photograph them again.

After all this walking through the town I found a cool place to rest in one of the rooms of the Seminario. And even if the rooms have a frightening height ... more than five meters! ... and have a very spartanic atmosphere I slept perfectly well.

This tiny baby palmtree looked to me like a symbol of hope. One day it will become one of those mighty palmtrees that are so typical for Trapani. And like this plant our tiny idea of having a real show will become a great show after two more month of waiting and working. I want to close my short report with many many thanks for the wonderful hospitality I was treated with in Trapany. I will keep in mind that Liliana, Antonio and Vito are very nice and friendly people and I am very thankful that they took care of me.
